Story
Bubble Tea, or boba, is the signature drink at one of Marquette's most unique cafes --- Blossom Bird Bubble Tea. Originally from Taiwan, bubble tea is a sweet drink made with a combination of tea, milk, and other flavoring. However, What really makes bubble tea unique is the tapioca pearls at the bottom of the cup. Made from tapioca starch (from a cassava root), these little pearls are a chewy and delicious addition to your drink!
Kaila and her husband, Daniel, are the owners and operators of the UP's only bubble tea cafe. Originally from downstate, Kaila says bubble tea was something they missed from below the bridge, and wanted to bring to the Marquette community. But Blossom Bird doesn't just do bubble tea! They also offer special "bubble waffles", macaroons, cakes, and occasionally a special dessert. You can hear more about these, and Kaila's story, below.
Currently, it's just Kaila in charge of all the baking, but she hopes to have more help soon. Right now she can only offer baked goods on the weekends, but the end goal is to offer something everyday. If you're a fan of asian inspired desserts - like cream pans - be on the lookout! Kaila says that is what she hopes to offer, as that's what she draws her inspiration from.

There are hundreds of different drink flavor combinations you can try at Blossom Bird, but here are my favorites:

Like something sweet? Try out the Creme Brulee Milk Tea! The base is a vanilla flavored tea with a layer of deliciously smooth bavarian cream. To top off the drink, there is a layer of whipped cream and caramelized sugar that meshes perfectly with the brown sugar tapioca pearls.

More of a fruity person? You can't go wrong with a classic Taro Milk Tea. If you've never had taro before, it has a combination of nutty, starchy, and vanilla flavor notes that wrap up into the perfect slightly-sweet flavor for bubble tea. It's also a gorgeous purple color, perfect for picture taking!
